2018 - Day 9

Leona and I had a nice breakfast at the hotel, and then packed our bags for another day. We found a church that seemed like it good fit, and headed there after packing up the bike. We were welcomed with open arms immediately, and quickly realized that we had ended up in the perfect place to worship this morning. The people at Cornerstone Christian Church were awesome, the morning service (preached from James 2:14-26) was solid, and the congregation was alive! We had spoken briefly with the pastor prior to the service, and right at the end of the service, he jokingly awarded us with a prize for traveling the furthest to listen to him preach, asking us to stand up for the congregation. They had a lunch for people 50 years old or more, but they made us stay for lunch with them. It was great to meet so many people, and each one we talked to seemed so happy to see us. I'll always have fond memories of Kentucky, and these folks this morning are part of that!

After lunch, around 12:30, we got back on the bike and headed east on the Bert T. Combs Mountain Parkway. It wasn't long before we reached highway 715, the Sky Bridge Road. It was a tight, winding road, perfect for a motorcycle. The views were good in a few spots, but it was more about the ride for me today.

Before long 715 connected to 77, which we took until it reached highway 460. From just east of Frenchburg, we stayed on this highway until we got to Georgetown. It was another great, winding ride through rural Kentucky. At Mt. Sterling we stopped for an ice cream, and by the time we had finished, dark clouds were moving in from almost all directions. From there, through North Middletown and Paris, to Georgetown we barely got any rain at all, and rode through some of the nicest country we've seen here. Large horse farms there, some absolutely massive houses, and beautifully manicured properties. There certainly seems to be some money in that area.

We checked into the hotel in Georgetown shortly after 5, only putting 226km on the bike today. After relaxing for over an hour, we walked to the Cattleman's Roadhouse next door for dinner. The rain started pouring just before we reached our hotel. It was a good day, and now we plan to visit the Ark Encounter and the Creation Museum over the next two days. After that it's mostly going to be riding days again for the remainder of the vacation.

Such a great group of people in this church!

Headed east from Winchester to ride the Red River Gorge road

Once again, exactly the picture I had in my mind when I pictured Kentucky

Watching the rain come down, thankful for a nice hotel room to stay dry in
