2018 - Day 12

After two days of very little riding, today we got back in the saddle. It was fun to get back on the highway, though it was pretty busy as we made our way around the outskirts of Cincinnati on I-275. Shortly after getting started we crossed the state line into Ohio, eventually turning east on state route 32. We weren't in Ohio for very long, probably only 3 hours or so, and then we crossed another state line into West Virginia.

The topography changed quite quickly, becoming more mountainous and tree covered as we started getting into the Appalachian mountains. We stopped for a late lunch just west of Charleston, and then we continued on. I was in the wrong lane and ended up on I-77 instead of I-64, at the big interchange in Charleston. Once we had that corrected we only stayed on I-64 for a short while, opting to ride on US-60 for a while. It runs parallel to the Kanawha River all the way to Hawks Nest State Park, and though it's a pretty slow ride, there's lots of corners and winding road to keep one entertained.

We are spending the night in Summersville, and then planning to get to Front Royal, VA tomorrow. From there we will be taking Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway down through Virginia and into North Carolina. This should be a great portion of the trip, and we are praying for good weather!
