2018 - Day 15

We got through our night at the motel just fine, no bug bites or new diseases picked up from our room. It wasn't absolutely horrible, but my favourite part of the room was watching it disappear in the rearview.

After topping up the tank, and getting some snacks an water for the day we hit I-66. Within a few minutes we were at the Blue Ridge Parkway. We stopped to get a few pictures of the sign, and then continued on. A lot of the views were similar to yesterday, and probably will be similar to what we see until the end. We took less pictures and soaked it in. The road is a big part of the experience, and though it is slow, it's still a great road to ride on.

Somewhere around the 90 mile mark we were actually riding on the ridge, with drop offs to our left and our right. It's beautiful country here, the views never get tiring as there's always a different view. As Leona would say, there are alway more broccoli mounds. Some of the hills sure do resemble broccoli as they are so densely wooded!

We had decided to stay the night in Roanoke after the amount of time we took yesterday on Skyline Drive. We stopped less today, and could have gone further, but some time to do laundry and relax is also good.

Just before we ended the day, I somehow managed to drop the bike with both of us on it. Getting off the BRP was a little weird, as there was no left turn available onto 220 which takes us into Roanoke. I got us into a bad spot to turn around, and should have been a little more careful. In the blink of an eye we went down in the gravel. I'm still not totally sure why, but I managed to lose my footing just enough to get off balance, and that's all it takes. Both of us are totally fine, but I can feel that my arms will be sore tomorrow, lifting a 900+ pound bike isn't as easy as it sounds. I feel like a total tool for dropping the bike, but I guess when you ride enough it's gonna happen eventually. We are just glad that it happened while stopped, and that we didn't end up getting hurt. The left mirror will need to get replaced, and the left saddle bag lid will also need to get replaced.

Hopefully tomorrow will be another good day, and hopefully it ends better than today!

More than 3 years ago I was planning for a trip here, and now it's reality

It was just a little bit cooler in the shade down by the falls

Really wish the camera could capture the distance one can see from some of the spots up here
