It was busy in Salmon Arm where we stopped for gas. Shortly after leaving I missed a turn, which Leona pointed out. Navigation is not her strength at all, so I was pleasantly surprised and glad she caught it before we went to far. It was not the only mistake of the day.
By the time we arrived in Kelowna, I was beginning to realize that it was a big mistake not finding a route to bypass the Okanagan. Traffic was horrendous, and slowed us down more than I thought was possible. We stopped at Gasoline Alley in Kelowna, buying a jacket for Leona and another shirt for me.
The border crossing was quick and easy, but the riding was still at a slow pace. When we turned off highway 97 at Bridgeport, onto highway 17, we finally had open highway to ride on. I was finally able to enjoy the ride and relax a little.
I lost my patience a few times during the day, and I thank my amazing wife for staying positive and trying her best to keep it fun. Leona has a way of bringing joy even when there is little to be found, and for keeping me balanced. I love you babe, thanks for being amazing!
The last few hours of the day were so much more relaxing, even though the heat was almost unbearable at times. I saw 100F on the bike, though the gauge is a little hard to read. It might have been just below that, but man was it hot all day.
Just before 9:30pm we finally arrived in Pasco, and had a happy reunion with Stan and Jessie. It was so nice to see their faces and get a chance to wind down and catch up. It felt a little strange compared to previous visits, now that I brought a wife with me. It will be awesome to spend time hanging out and just relaxing after the whirlwind of a summer Leona and I have had.
Thanks Leona for contributing pictures to the blog today! Handy having someone to help with that.
